Synopsis: Deh'ma Jow'say, an extraterrestrial herbalist, lives in Biosphere Nao'sin, a forested asteroid orbiting a distant sun. She tends the asteroid's flora and fauna and awaits the return of her friends. They left to investigate a distress call from Biosphere Kondoy, the largest of many such biospheres in the solar system, over a month ago. Using the Biosphere's solar sail, Deh'ma navigates the solar winds toward Kon'doy before she is intercepted by Speen Relco, arriving in his damaged spacecraft. He offers to speed her journey by using his ship's powerful engines to alter her trajectory if, upon their arrival, he can use their technical facilities to repair his navigation systems. She agrees. Soon, however, Speen's true motives are revealed. Upon confirming the mineral riches embedded in the asteroid's rock, he begins the takeover of her forested world. Actually a prospector for an interstellar mining corporation, he lays claim to the rock's platinum and prepares it for mining. He does not care if its nature is destroyed in the process; for without this metal, his society will not be able to continue enjoy its current way of life. Upon discovering pollution in the waterways, Deh'ma confronts him. Captured, she watches as her world withers. If she is to save it from obliteration, she must foil his plans. Soon the reality of their situation becomes clear: their existence is dependent on the very thing he carelessly destroys. Will she be able to stop him and will her world survive the outcome?
